Playing music is both a physical and a mental task – so is it possible to practice when your not near your instruments? Or when you don’t have an instrument?! YES! Here are some great tips from BMF co-founder Nate Shaw on how to engage with your craft without making a sound:
Four ways to practice away from your instrument:
Piano: Visualize the keyboard. Play your knee piano or desk top.
Drums: Have you seen the knee beat in your HomeRock? Play your body and build coordination.
Guitar: Air guitar is real!! Air Strum. Air Chords. Call the Chords.
Voice: Lyric memory exercises. What are the keywords for each line in the chorus? Verse?
Building Practice Habits = Fun & Easy
- Five minutes away from your instrument
- Practice on the train, walk to school or during the ads while watching TV!
Learning an instrument is as much mental as it is physical. Try to do both each week.
