We love sharing fun and free music games for kids! Our BLAM games (that’s Big Lesson About Music) help kids strengthen skills in melody, rhythm, harmony, and songwriting. Plus—they’re super fun and engaging!
This post features one of our favorite rhythmic challenges: The Big Beat Sheet Level 2. In Level 1, we introduced the basics of rhythm notes. Now, it’s time to level up your skills by combining visual reading with physical action. This game is designed to help students bridge the gap between seeing a note on a page and feeling that note in their body.
Game Details:
-
Suggested Age: 4–8 years old
-
Game Time: 4 minutes
-
Materials Needed: Just your “Clapping Hands!”
-
Prerequisites: Intro to Rhythm Notes / Big Beat Sheet Level 1
How to Play:
The rules are simple, but the challenge requires focus!
-
Watch the Screen: As the Big Beat Sheet scrolls, keep your eyes on the rhythm notes.
-
Read: Identify the notes as they pass the “play line.”
-
Clap: Physically perform the rhythm.
-
SAY: This is the secret BMF sauce! We want you to vocalize the rhythms (using “Ta,” “Ti-Ti,” or “Rest”) while you clap.
Pro Tip for Parents: If your child is struggling to keep up with the tempo, try pausing the video and practicing just one line at a time. Once they can “Read, Clap, and Say” a single line, hit play again and see if they can catch the groove!
