Private Lessons & Group Classes for Ages 9-11
At Brooklyn Music Factory, learning music revolves around songwriting, games, and plenty of opportunities to make music as a community. Through songwriting and games, students are developing the real-life skills—strong ears, theory, skills & technique—musicians need to make music. (Hint: There’s a lot more to music than playing chords on an instrument!)
For students ages 9-11, we offer group band and instrument classes, as well as private lessons. Some students do one or the other, some do both!
Rock Write Record
In Rock Write Record bands, kids ages 9-11 come together to write and record songs, collaborate musically, level up their musicianship, and learn the skills to play in a band. Students develop advanced music fluencies by playing games and writing songs together with their band. Because instruction in Rock Write Record bands focuses on songwriting, students must be taking private lessons on their instrument outside of band class. At least 1 to 2 years of experience required.
Group Instrument Classes
Group instrument classes are a fun and creative place for kids to focus on a particular instrument (guitar, drums, piano or voice) and start developing instrument-specific skill and technique–while also writing songs and playing games designed to teach general music fluency (ie., music skills, like theory and ear training, that all musicians need, regardless of instrument). All in a fun & collaborative group setting… and for the cost of a group class!
Private Lessons
Private lessons at Brooklyn Music Factory are a LOT different than the boring lessons many parents remember from their own childhoods. Instead of doing boring drills, students at BMF are playing music games and writing original songs to learn the principles of music, along with instrument-specific skills and technique. Plus, private lesson students come together twice a year to play their original songs in bands. Private lessons are available on guitar, bass, drums, piano, and voice.
Our daughter is thrilled to have gotten into both LaGuardia and Murrow for music. BMF gave her a safe place to develop not only her skills, but her passion for music. It means so much to her.”

BMF is the best thing that ever happened to my son, Christopher!!! He loves it so much! He is always excited to go for any occasion. It fosters an environment of kindness, friendship and comradery. Very thankful JudyPosted on sakura moriuchiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Musicians big and small are encouraged to develop their path in their own unique way. This is a place for budding musicians that are internally driven by their love of music and the joy they get from developing their skills and collaborating with others. Our multi-instrument musician has been taught and mentored by BMF for almost 10 years.Posted on Tata WetzelTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Extremely nice group, my son Harrison is 6 years old he was very shy kid since we started coming here he became so open sings everywhere and dance. Everyone is very happy and positive, vibe is uplifting. Highly recommend anyonePosted on LoriTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We just picked our kiddo (4 year old) up from his second day of Spring Break camp at BMF. Yesterday he said it was the best camp ever. I wanted to make sure before I shared my review, so I asked again today, and he said he had even more fun! We have been a BMF family for many years with my older kids (and have only great things to say about the music lessons!), but this is our first round of camp with a little one. He tends to be shy and anxious to try new things, but he said he loved the teachers and he made friends. He has been humming his original song all afternoon, and his only complaint is that eventually we have to go back to school and cannot go back to camp until this summer. I love the flexibility they offer in scheduling and that they spend time outside. He is happy and tired at the end of the day...I cannot ask for more than that!Posted on Lynn DoanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We took our daughter here for a single-day song-writing camp and she had an absolute blast. We worried about whether she’d feel alone since she went in not knowing anyone else and having never stepped foot in the music factory. But she eased right in.Posted on Matthew LowenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our kiddo LOVES Brooklyn Music Factory. The counselors are fun, knowledgeable, and bring out the best in the kiddos. The livestreams of their performances is brilliant. It's been wonderful to see our kiddo grow in their music making and confidence at all the same time. Thanks BMF!!
