(See your HomeRock report or ask your teacher for your specific gig day/time.)
Where: Brooklyn Music Factory MainStage, 600 Degraw St., Brooklyn
Q: We have a conflict on the day/time of the gig. What do we do?
A: Please talk to your teacher as soon as possible. (Note: It is not possible to accommodate personal schedule requests for the band gigs.)
Q: Do we have class the week after the gig?
A: Yes! (Except for MiniKeys. Please see below for more info on MiniKeys.) The gig is a midyear celebration, but we keep learning and making music together through the end of the school year in June! There are lots more games to play, songs to write, and skills to build, so please plan on attending your class and/or lessons as usual after the gig. We’re planning to see you!
Q: What about MiniKeys?
A: MiniKeys has a fall session (Sept 9-Jan 20) and a spring session (Jan 29-June 16). We hope you will enroll in the spring session! There’s lots more to do—and our mini musicians will build on the work they’ve done all fall. Please contact Jason at jason@brooklynmusicfactory.com with questions and to save your spot.
Q: I think I’m owed a makeup lesson. When does that happen?
A: Students in private lessons are allotted up to two makeup lessons per year. (If a teacher misses a lesson, that lesson will be made up separately–and is not counted as one of the two makeups.) Makeup lessons are held at the same day and time as your regular lesson during two designated makeup weeks. The first is January 22-January 27. If you are unsure if you are due a makeup lesson, please ask your teacher. If you are not owed a makeup lesson, you will not have a lesson during the makeup week. (There are no makeups for band classes.)
Q: I think we need to change our schedule. Is that possible?
A: You are welcome to change days and/or times, if a spot is available. Email jessica@brooklynmusicfactory.com to find out about current openings.
Q: How do I know if/when my child is ready to try something new at BMF? Or! I have questions about my child’s experience in band and/or private lessons. Who do I talk to?
A: Please contact your child’s teacher—firstname@brooklynmusicfactory.com—to discuss their experience and what the next best step is on their musical journey. If you are not sure how to get in touch with your student’s teacher, you can also email jessica@brooklynmusicfactory and she will put you in touch with the right person.
Q: I’m not sure we want to continue. Can we stop midyear?
A: We hope you won’t—there’s lots more to do!—but we do understand that some students might need to stop. We have a 30-day cancellation policy. Please email Jessica at jessica@brooklynmusicfactory.comto let us know that you are cancelling.
Q:Do we have class during the holiday break? What about Martin Luther King day?
A: No and yes. (BMF is closed Saturday, December 23-Monday, January 1. Classes resumes Tuesday, January 2. We are open January 15.) You can see the full schedule online here.
