Welcome to the Big Music Games Club! This is where we take the “Fun First” philosophy and turn it into a dedicated class for serious skill-building.
While private lessons focus on the specific mechanics of an instrument (fingering, posture, technique), the Big Music Games Club is all about the mind and the ear. We designed this 80-week series specifically for kids ages 6–9 to help them “hear more” in the music they love.
Why a Games Club?
We found that students often struggle with the “invisible” parts of music—theory and ear training—because they are abstract. By turning these concepts into games, we make the invisible visible. The Games Club removes the pressure of the instrument and lets kids focus purely on musicianship fluency.
What We Cover (The 3 Pillars):
1. Melody Games
-
Objective: To connect the ear to the instrument.
-
The Skill: We play games that train students to hear intervals (the distance between two notes). When a student can recognize intervals by ear, they can pick out melodies from their favorite songs without needing sheet music.
2. Rhythm Games
-
Objective: To internalize the “Big Beat.”
-
The Skill: These games aren’t just about keeping time; they are about understanding the math of rhythm. Students learn to recognize rhythmic patterns instantly, just like reading words in a sentence.
3. Harmony Games
-
Objective: To understand the emotional landscape of music.
-
The Skill: We start with simple distinctions—Major vs. Minor (Happy vs. Sad). As students progress through the 80 weeks, they learn to hear chord progressions and understand how different chords push a song forward.
The Structure
-
Duration: 45 minutes per weekly session.
-
Format: Group-based. Music is a social language, and learning theory in a group setting encourages peer-to-peer learning.
-
The Goal: By the end of the series, students don’t just “play” music; they understand it. They become fluent musicians who can jam, improvise, and write their own songs with confidence.
